Feb. 11, 1993 – Sept. 16, 2018

Matthew Lance Fielding passed away on Sept. 16 at the age of 25. He was born in Burbank and attended St. James the Less Elementary School, Rosemont Middle School and Crescenta Valley High.

Matt’s first job was helping his father, Lance, at Gene & Eddie’s Kustom Hot Rod Shop. It’s there that Matt developed a strong bond with his father and an incredible sense of detail, pride, patience and mechanical knowledge. He became a master craftsman in classic car, hot rod and motorcycle restoration.

Matt joined the Navy in 2011 and was stationed at Naval Air Station Lemoor, California, followed by Point Mugu. There he was a team member to the world famous VAW113 Black Eagles Squadron. He was able to participate in Rimpac 2014, a multi-nation military exercise in the Pacific Ocean and was proud to be stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan.

Before and after the Navy, Matt worked tirelessly for Burbank Moto, Bimmer Heads, Fielding Fabrication and Bateman Water Heating. He recently, and with great pride, purchased his first home, a historical stone house built in 1924 in Shadow Hills.

Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Fredrick David Lance Fielding, who died in 2009. He is survived by his loving family including his mother Eileen, sister Kelsey, stepfather Robert, stepmother Erin, grandparents Mumu, Papa, Cami, Lucia and great grandmothers Dorothy and Teiko. He also leaves behind siblings Billy, Kristi, Jonathan, Danielle and Brandon. In addition, Matthew was blessed to have many mentors in his life including Julie Richards and Ken and Melissa Duke.

Matt’s life was too short but he lived it to the fullest. Always smiling, especially when he was in trouble for something, he was charming and happy-go-lucky. His friends nicknamed him “Huck.”

Anyone who hung out with Matt can attest to some kind of shenanigans. He was always pulling pranks on his friends but was never afraid to be the brunt of a joke himself. He valued his friends and family and was willing to help anyone out, even strangers. His passion for life was contagious. Matthew’s motto was “I’d rather be an amateur participant than a professional spectator.”

1931-2018

Myron Seamone Konjoyan passed on Sept. 13 after a short illness. Myron was born May 7, 1931 in Oakland, California and was raised in Glendale. Nicknamed “Rocky,” he was a basketball star at Hoover High School and attended Glendale College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Feb. 9, 1935 – Sept. 13, 2018

Kay Ellen Rinder, 83, a longtime Glendale resident, unexpectedly passed away from a massive stroke on Thursday, Sept. 13.

Kay was an outstanding wife, mother, “nani” and friend to many who describe her as a smart, beautiful, strong, practical, humble, generous and overall classy woman. She was the “rock” in the family and spent many hours talking through issues with all sorts of people using a very analytical and common sense approach. All who knew her loved and appreciated Kay’s patience and wisdom.

Kay was one of five children born in Redwing, Minnesota in 1935. She moved to California in 1958 to pursue a career in union work. Kay, who went by “Pat” at work, gave 44 years of service to UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) Local 770 as a director and vice president.

UFCW 770 stated, “Pat highlighted, drew attention and confirmed the importance of negotiated benefits for 770 as well as provided counsel, stability and perspective on our work. [Losing her is a] significant loss that we should acknowledge as we organize to enhance our members and their families lives, in a complete sense.”

Kay/Pat was well respected by her colleagues and enjoyed “making a difference” for members and their families.

On Oct. 7, 1961, Kay married Jim Rinder, sharing nearly 57 years together and having four beautiful children: Lisa Salas (56), Darrel Rinder (54), Debbie Rinder (54) and Kim Mosher (52), who created 10 outstanding grandchildren: Kevin Rinder (38), John Salas (27), Christopher Mosher (26), Nicole Salas (26), Kaitlyn Rinder (25), Michael Rinder (24), Kaylynne Mosher (23), Brendan Rinder-O’Rourke (23), Kelly Rinder-O’Rourke (21) and Timmy Rinder-O’Rourke (19), and one awesome great-grandchild Alexis Rinder (7), aka “the baby.”

Kay valued family and expected full family participation at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas in her typically overly decorated house. Everyone was welcome at the Rinder house.

Additionally, gambling was a favorite pastime for Kay and the family who took yearly trips to the casino. Kay was very lucky and quickly earned and still holds the title of “Royal Flush Queen” as she spent many hours playing video poker. These memories and traditions will continue for generations to come.

A celebration of life for Kay will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church (Carlson Fellowship Center) located at 134 Kenwood Road, Glendale followed by a lunch reception and socialization with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers and to support Kay’s love for gardening, if you would like to send an outdoor plant/flower for her garden or a card to the family, please send to 1741 El Rito Ave. Glendale, CA 91208.

Nov. 27, 1930 – Oct. 2, 2018

Janet Teya Hall was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1930 to parents Earl and Stella Hall. It was fitting that she arrived on a holiday that celebrates faith, family and food prepared with skill and love, because those three things remained important to her for the rest of her life. She grew up in Glendale and attended Glendale High School until her family moved to the east coast, where she graduated from Princeton High School and then Hood College.

Following graduation she returned to California and met and married Gene Mauk, the love of her life.

Janet made lifelong friends through volunteer and professional involvement with the Glendale Unified School District, where she was able to combine her commitment to education and to her four children. She served in many capacities in the PTA, including president at Valley View Elementary School. She went on to work for many years as a library assistant at Clark and Rosemont.

Janet loved classical music, playing cello throughout school and regularly attending LA Philharmonic concerts later in life. She loved all animals, especially the family Labrador retrievers.

She was an active member of the La Crescenta Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, serving as a deacon and singing in the choir for most of that time.

Highlights of the travel and adventure she enjoyed with Gene include climbing Mt. Whitney, hot-air ballooning in Africa, viewing the terracotta army in China, and observing solar eclipses around the globe.

Janet is survived by husband Gene; daughter Cynthia (Jerry); sons Steve, Rob, and John (Mary); grandchildren Ashley, Daniel, Lauren, Trevor, and Riley; and four great-grandchildren, all of whom miss her dearly.

The family is planning a private celebration of her life.
